Attendance & Absences

Attendance & Student Absences

Regular attendance is essential to student success. Whether your child will be absent due to illness, an appointment, or another reason, we're here to help make the reporting process simple. Use this page to learn how to report an absence, review attendance expectations, and find contact information for your child's school.

Report an Absence

If your child will be absent, please notify their school before 10:00 a.m. on the day of the absence. In the accordion below, you will find how to contact their office. If your child’s office does not answer, please leave a voicemail.

If an absence has not been reported, Sturgis Public Schools will send an automated attendance notification to the student's parent or guardian to help ensure every student's safety and well-being.

Attendance Policies

Review district attendance expectations, excused and unexcused absences, and important procedures that is found in the Sturgis Public Schools handbook.

Pre-Planned Absences

If your student will be absent for multiple consecutive school days due to a vacation, family emergency, medical reason, or other planned event, please complete the Pre-Planned Extended Absence Form and return it to your school's main office before the absence. Students are responsible for obtaining any assignments from their teachers prior to leaving. The form is available in both English and Spanish.
