Sturgis Community,

We are pleased to announce that Vince LaPorte has been selected to serve as Principal at both Congress Elementary School and Wenzel Elementary School. We would also like to welcome his wife Jen and son Daniel to the Sturgis family. Mr. LaPorte has served as an alternative education teacher, physical education teacher, dean of students, and most recently Assistant Principal at Newton D. Baker School of the Arts in Cleveland, Ohio. It is his belief that an educator’s mission is to provide all students with the necessary opportunities to experience success and prepare for the challenges that await them along their journey through life. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Manhattanville College and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration from Cleveland State University.

He was officially approved by the Board of Education during their meeting on Monday, June 10, 2019. Superintendent Art Ebert shared with the Board that 30 individuals applied for the position, and that the selection process included an application screen, phone interview, first round interview, a job related performance task, reference checks, and a second round interview.

Mr. LaPorte is a dedicated leader who is committed to educating today’s youth. Additionally, he looks forward to becoming an engaged member of the Sturgis Community. He will officially begin his duties as Congress Elementary School and Wenzel Elementary School Principal on Thursday, August 1, 2019.
